WIG INFORMATION

1) WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SYNTHETIC WIG AND A HUMAN HAIR WIG?

Synthetic wigs are known for their "shake and wear" ease. The hairstyle is embedded in the synthetic fibres so the wig falls easily into place with a shake. Good quality synthetic wigs start from around $200, look like real hair and are very easy to look after. They have been pre-set so the style and/or curls will be there after washing, if the proper care instructions are followed. These are recommended for women who prefer to own a few styles, need a wig for a short period of time and for those who are undergoing chemotherapy. Quality human hair wigs are more expensive and are best for those wanting a wig long term. Human hair wigs can be cut, styled and coloured to your desire. This would require professional salon services but will provide you with the maximum flexibility. Please note: We do not suggest a human hair wig for those going through chemotherapy as they require much more care than a synthetic wig.

The cost of buying a wig varies substantially. Key factors that determine cost are hair type and cap construction. A hand-tied wig gives you maximum flexibility to wear the hair in any direction with a natural appearance. Ear tabs allow you to wear your glasses comfortably. The most comfortable wigs allow your scalp to breathe and are light-weight, which are perfect for our hot Okanagan weather. Ultimately the cost of a wig will be determined by the hair type and its construction.

2) WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A NORMAL LACE WIG AND A MONOFILAMENT WIG?

Monofilament wigs have a fine mesh material (monofilament) at the top of the wig that takes on the colour of the wearer's scalp, giving the illusion that the hair is growing from the person's head. Monofilament wigs are a little more expensive than regular lace wigs, as each individual strand of hair is hand-tied into the monofilament material, resulting in a more natural look.

3) DO I NEED TO BUY WIG CARE PRODUCTS TO MAINTAIN MY WIG?

Yes - don't buy the wig if you're not going to buy the wig care products. These products are important to keep your wig looking great and to give it longevity. You will need a special wig shampoo, conditioner, styling spray, wig brush and wig drying/storing rack to maintain your wig. Do not use regular hair care products on your wig as these contain ingredients such as oil or alcohol, which can harm or coat the wig fibres and cause it to take on a frizzy look, which will shorten your wig's life.

4) HOW SOON SHOULD I PURCHASE MY WIG?

It is highly recommended that you buy your wig prior to starting your treatment. This allows you to transition into your wig prior to losing your hair and you are likely to have more time and energy to shop for a wig before starting your treatment.

5) HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO REPLACE MY WIG?

This will depend largely on how often you wear it and how well you care for your wig. With good maintenance and proper care, you can expect six months to one year of use. Bloom provides detailed care and washing instructions with every wig we sell.

6) IF MY WIG IS FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES, CAN I CLAIM IT?

Contact your health insurance company in advance to ask about their requirements, what they will cover and what terminology they need to have on a prescription for a wig. If you are not covered by a private insurance plan, to claim your wig purchases as a medical expense for income tax, you must receive a prescription from your medical practitioner prior to our appointment. The prescription should be written to explain the type of illness which caused your hair loss and the need to purchase a wig. Bloom will provide an invoice to attach to your prescription to enable you to claim the expense.

7) PAY IT FORWARD!

If your hair has grown back and you feel ready to show off it off... we encourage you to donate your wig to the cancer society, so someone else can enjoy it. They supply wigs to women who are in treatment for cancer plus other diseases but cannot afford the price of a wig. Having a flattering wig can help a woman feel that she looks attractive... this can lift her spirits greatly during a time when she is fighting cancer or another hair loss ailment. After a wig has served you well, consider giving it a new life with another survivor.

EYEBROW WIG INFORMATION

1) HOW LONG DO EYEBROW WIGS LAST?

With daily wear the wigs should last 2 to 3 months. After this time, the thin mesh webbing will begin to break down and the wigs will need to be replaced

2) HOW LONG IN THE DAY CAN I WEAR THEM FOR?

We recommend you remove them each night. The adhesive is quite strong and your skin needs a soothing cream at night to moisturize and soften the skin in the brow area.

3) WHAT COLOR IS BEST FOR ME?

Try to match the brow color to your hair color. If you have dark hair we suggest a dark wig to match or a wig slightly lighter than your hair color. If you find a wig is too light you can always use a cosmetic to darken it. A wig that is too dark cannot easily be lightened because chemicals will break down the mesh netting at the back.

4) HOW DO I REMOVE THE GLUE FROM THE BACK OF THE WIG?

Adhesive build up on wigs can be removed by gently "rolling" the adhesive off... start at the part of the wig nearest the nose. Final bits of adhesive can be removed from the wig mesh with our Wig Adhesive Remover. Do not use harsh solvents like nail polish remover to clean your wigs. These could break down the fine web mesh.

5) CAN I WEAR MY EYEBROW WIGS IN THE POOL OR SHOWER?

DO NOT WEAR YOUR WIGS IN THE SHOWER OR WHEN SWIMMING. The adhesive that holds the wig on you is waterproof - the adhesive however that holds the wig itself together is not waterproof.

The wigs are made from 100% human hair. Each individual hair has been attached by hand to a thin web mesh. The hairs are knotted around the mesh and combed into position.

8) CAN YOU SEE THE WEB MESH ONCE YOU PUT THE WIG ON?

You cannot see the mesh once you apply the adhesive to it and place it against your skin. People that look closely will think they see individual hairs coming out of pores.

9. I HAVE BROW HAIR.  DO YOU RECOMMEND THE WIGS FOR ME?

This depends on where your brow hair is. If you are missing large areas either at the front or back of the brow then the wig can be trimmed and just a portion of the wig attached. If you have brow hair going all the way across than the wig adhesive might get stick to the brow hair and potentially be yanked out when you remove the wig. Likely a brow the Eyebrow Filling In Kit is best for you.
